Bringing 20.000 People to Manchester City Waterfront Areas in 20 Years 3 Municipalities Share Canal Side Developments

Professor Ian Douglas

About the Presentation

The Cities of Manchester and Salford and the Borough of Trafford share waterside real estate along the upper end of the Manchester Ship Canal, as well as many kilometers of inland navigation narrow canals. The remarkable Manchester canal side revival story might be of interest to Belgian fluvial and canal cities. Waterfronts have a powerful potential for high value activities, waiting to be fully realised. The future for sustainable or durable city renovation is clearly demonstrated with these cases.
